As today's economy sends people of our region deeper into the recession and causes many to lose their jobs, Pennsylvania CareerLinks are doing their best to provide our community with the help they need to find and keep jobs. One way that CareerLinks are providing people with help is by giving them the opportunity to achieve a WorkKeys Career Readiness Certificate. This certificate can be acquired by taking an Assessment known as the WorkKeys, which is provided free of charge. The WorkKeys would be beneficial to a person who has his/her high school diploma or GED and is trying to enter the workforce. This assessment measures job skills in three areas; Applied Mathematics, locating Information, and reading for Information. Taking the WorkKeys and receiving either a Bronze, Silver or Gold Career Readiness Certificate would enable employers to better recognize your strengths. Before taking the actual WorkKeys assessment, interested people must first be scheduled for the Win Lab, which consists of a Placement Test to measure where your skills are currently, and, if needed, a self-paced Remediation or study guide section in which to increase one's skill set. As of July, there were 339 employers in our Central Region, with 48 being from Northumberland County that recognize the WorkKeys Career Readiness Certificate. Clearly this is a great way to market your skills and appeal to local employers. The Northumberland CareerLink urges you to visit their website at www.cwds.state.pa.us, call at 644-1520, or stop by their Shamokin office at 2 Arch Street, Shamokin, PA. The CareerLinks also offers many other free workshops, such as Word I & II, Excel I & II, Developing a Resume and Interviewing. Visit them today!
