WKMC Upgrades

Story by: David Hummel

This year WKMC-TV upgraded some of its old equipment. Most notably, two Sony DXC-3000A cameras have been replaced with two JVC HDV GY-HD250 Pro HD cameras. These cameras allow WKMC to record in 720p hi-definition, although at the present time all recording is done in standard definition. In the future WKMC hopes to be able to make full use of the HD abilities these cameras offer.

In addition to the new cameras, WKMC also purchased an AV-HS400N Panasonic hi-definition switcher, a new tripod, an audio mixer, and a 50" LCD TV. The LCD monitor allows our show director to see all eight graphic and video feeds, as well as the preview and live feeds simultaneously one screen. WKMC hopes the new equipment can help them to produce more exciting and education programs for years to come.

On another note, for the WKMC alumni who remember how fond Mr. McFee was of his Sony cameras, we are pleased to say that cameras 2 and 3 are still alive and functioning. These two cameras are used for our scoreboard feeds, end zone camera, and for wide shots of the studio. Sadly though, cameras 4 and 5 have stopped working and are not repairable due to lack of parts availibility..
