Most subscribers to Service Electric Cable Vision of Sunbury,
Pa. can watch MCA
LIVE on channel 13 at 7:30 A. M. each school day.
The show is an informative educational service relaying school news and community
events to Mount Carmel Area students and the surrounding public.
Students from Mrs. Kathy Schauer's News Reporting class anchor the news from the George McFee Studio each morning. Feature stories include information on scholarship opportunties, college visits, school and classroom activites and initiatives, along with segments on scholastic sports, club activities and student projects. The program serves as an informational tool for parents and students alike and provides an opportunity for showcasing student acheivment.
The morning news is prepared throughout the previous day of
broadcasting. Most stories are written, logged, and delivered to the studio
for video and graphics production. Once the log is delivered, students use Avid DV Express to edit video for the next day's program. A variety of software applications are used to produce informational graphics to supplement video. Other stories arrive 20 minutes before airtime. Students deliver a paper copy or email to be transferred to teleprompters and logs.
Video cameras and audio levels are operated and monitored by students
during the broadcast. Direction, master control, video feeds and graphics are also the responsibility of students who operate twelve different stations during the live broadcast. Two separate video programs are monitored. They include a closed curcuit system within
the school and a fiber optic feed to Service Electric for distribution
to the community.
