Joe Mazer, Class of 2000
I graduated from Mount Carmel Area High School in 2000 and was a member of WKMC-TV from 1996-2000. During that time I served as Student Director of WKMC-TV and as News Editor and Anchor of MCA LIVE. Ever wonder how the news program came to be known as MCA LIVE? I changed its name to MCA LIVE beginning with the 1999-2000 school year.
Although I was unaware at that time, my involvement with WKMC was preparing me for a teaching career. The late George McFee, the founder of WKMC-TV, was a major influence in my life and shaped my future career as a teacher. Since I graduated from MCAHS in 2000, my career path has taken me from Pennsylvania to Illinois to Ohio.
I graduated from Mansfield University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication with emphases in Broadcasting and Journalism and a minor in Speech Communication. I earned my Master of Science degree in Communication from Illinois State University in 2006. I am currently a doctoral student at Ohio University where I am working towards a Ph.D. degree in Communication Studies. At Ohio, I teach college courses in Introduction to Communication, Public Speaking, Small Group Communication, Interpersonal Communication, and Statistics in Communication Research. I will graduate with my Ph.D. in 2010 and pursue a career as a university professor. As a Ph.D. student, I also conduct research to understand how teachers use their communication behavior to influence students in the classroom.
If you are a member of WKMC-TV, learn lots and have fun! It will definitely benefit you in the future.
