The Mount Carmel Area School District has recently made emergency care more accessible by installing AED cabinets around the school campus. Maintained by the elementary and high school nurses, the automated External Defibrillator, AEDs, were placed into the alarm sounding cabinets in various locations throughout the schools and stadium. They are located in the elementary and high school gyms, the elementary rotunda, the lobby near the high school principal’s office, and the field house at the Silverbowl. In the event of an emergency, the cabinet is opened and the AED is quickly accessed to aid in saving someone’s life during a heart attack. Anyone who is First Aid and CPR certified is also AED certified, so the alarm sounds in order to alert trained personnel to access the situation. The Defibrillators were donated by the Free Masons Organization, and the cabinets were purchased by the district and the PTA. The decision to install the AEDs was a life-saving investment, since people of all ages, can be at risk for certain heart conditions.
